Environmental Psychology, is an area of applied psychology focused on how people interact with the natural and built environment. It explores the impact of environmental factors such as urban design on wellbeing, community and social interactions, with the aim to design better spaces for living and working.
Environmental Psychology includes a number of focus areas, including:
- Environmental stressors, such how noise, crowding and pollution impact mental health
- Perception of Risk, such as adaptation to climate change and navigating a natural disaster
- Sustainability behaviours, such as engaging consumers in a cyclical economy
- Place attachment, such as the emotional attachment people have to a specific location
- Perception of space, such as how people perceive and interact with different spaces and the impact of lights, colours and acoustics
- Design and behaviour, such as how architectural and urban design can promote positive social interactions and wellbeing
I assist individuals, organisations and institutions with assessment, reporting, planning and policy development in this space.
